Often times it is possible to extract a tooth, insert an implant into the extraction site, and place an immediate temporary restoration. This approach, also known as immediate tooth replacement, has many advantages over the traditional approach, most notably that the soft tissue contours are maintained and that the patient does not need a removable temporary appliance. Dr. Wöhrle developed the technique of immediate tooth replacement, and was the first to publish on it. [LINK]

However, not all situations will lend themselves for immediate tooth replacement. This is true for extremely large roots; highly scalloped, thin soft tissues, or when generalized active infection is present. Dr. Wöhrle will discuss with you if you are a candidate for immediate tooth replacement.
